Purple Pirates

Just today I had to deal with the concept of homophobia with one of my students.

What a day deal with it!
Sometimes I have a feeling that kids just repeat what they are told and what they are taught. Some mean no harm... other don't feel good about themselves and need to pick on others.

Coincidentally I had not read this thing yet and was already talking in class about how you should question things and find the truth yourselves.

Honestly when I put Pifo (to the right) and Quoque (to the left) in The Pirate Balthasar it was not just for comical relief - I had a theme in mind which is meant to deal with the pressure from the outside society, being a teen ager whose body is changing into something you truly don't know... and the fact that what you are told and what you feel are opposite things and you have to deal with it.
I don't want to portray a fake gay guy, I lived in San Francisco way too long... some of the people I call brothers are gay and for men is tough. Lots of peer pressure. Dear Lord!
Girls... some even think it's hot... then one wonders who's the weirdo.

So to me Pifo is important he has a message to tell and the message is: Thank God love is completely blind and misses the target! Thank God love really can't tell men from women apart and just hits randomly! If love is the answer then I found mine! You are the answer, you are the one.

Let's all wear purple!
